Given the stupid prices (over hipe) of the Seiko SKX007 this represents astonishing value for money.
Although this has the slightly older Miyota movement Cal. 8023, this is regarded as being slightly more accurate/reliable than the newer 8024 and according to many sources, is more accurate than the SKX movement.
This family of Promaster Automatic watches has the reputation of previously being used by the Italian Navy, where this 20ATM-rated watch was actually proved to stand up to 50ATM.
This is even ISO rated, incredible for the price.
As is often pointed out, this actually sits smaller on the wrist than the spec suggests.
Many reviews do mirror each other, describing how the user can almost forget that it is sat on their wrist. It’s incredibly comfortable to wear.
What grade of titanium this uses, I don’t know (2 or 5 maybe) but to get a proven and reliable automatic, 20ATM (ISO-rated) using titanium for way under 500,-€ is incredible.
This has a beautiful subtle blue face with the red second and minute hand, adding real understated class, without being too “showy”.
Finally, the only criticism, which is true for these Citizen automatic watches. The bezel!!! It looks great it has next to no play, and has a very pleasant click. BUT!!!! Yes, it will occasionally move a few clicks if only slightly knocked.
For some customers, they will find the automatic movement a little louder than perhaps the SKX and more expensive models.
It makes an obvious (but pleasing) whirling/whoosh when the watch is moving.
I’ve owned many Seikos and a pro DAVOSA.
I think that an SKX is overrated now and getting a little boring. As for the price (most selling in Europe for around 400-500,-€) the SKX is far too expensive now.
The design of the Citizen is a little 90s but I personally think this is the best little “automatic diver” for under 500,-€.
At around the current 300,-€ price….! A 9 out of 10 watch.
Please note that the shown strap is not sold with the Citizen. My watch came with the steel/titanium version. I personally love the look of these Citizen watches on Nylon straps (my photos) or the NATO straps.
