Kundrecensioner

Dog training is an entirely unregulated industry with no requirement for qualifications so the barrier to entry is zero. Anyone can set themselves up as a dog trainer. However, qualifications and teaching under a coach or mentor are critical in nearly every profession, and without them, the bar for quality and standards is non-existent. We wouldn't tolerate this in any other area of our lives.
This leaves our dogs at the mercy of TikTok famous dog trainers with low-quality online training at most. It isn't very intelligent or developed to believe that this is any certification. The recent dog attack resulting in the death of a 28-year-old woman who was unlicensed, untrained and uninsured to walk dogs for money is a testament to why.
Nevertheless, Spivey's book has its place in the world because his audience needs to be told that a puppy shouldn't spend all night in a soiled crate and that puppies shouldn't be allowed in kids' bedrooms due to a multitude of choking hazards. This audience needs to be told that puppies need water to drink. As per his videos, his audience needs to be told not to prank dogs for social media amusement.
Many will cite the results they see in videos as evidence of the results of the self-taught 'expert'. They see a carefully curated video using inhumane devices such as e-collars, prongs, slip leads (These are not featured in the book; instead, we have haltis and double-attached harnesses, which are equally harmful according to peer-reviewed science). They do not see before and after scenes or the exacerbation six months down the line. They do not understand that the dog is being broken down into a state of helplessness because she is being forced to comply and prevented from communicating. No good can come from subjugating a fearful dog by cutting off the blood supply to her brain, shocking or stabbing her in the neck.
Don't be taken in by video magic when many of the methods displayed here are scientifically rejected.
What Spivey does well in both videos and the book, is that he is uncompromising in telling his audience how to behave themselves and delivers basic common sense. However, when it comes to actual dog training and understanding behaviour, always seek the advice of a properly qualified, accredited, proven and insured scientific-backed expert. Ask what school they attended, and ask to see qualifications, case studies and recommendations from other professionals. We require our teachers, nurses, public transport drivers, fast food servers, nuclear power plant operators, elevator installers, et al., to be correctly educated, trained and referenced. It is the same for dogs and their humans, and it is a matter of health and safety.
It goes without saying that returns have been made and refunds have been requested.

The book is a succinct guideline for all dog owners...common sense, handy hints and interesting facts.
It should be a mandatory requirement, when anyone gets a dog, to read this first.

Style was quite waffly and a lot of repetitve preaching so could have done with more editing to be more succinct and easier to follow. Have returned for a refund as style was too disorganised and there are books which are better value for money out there.

I read other reviews before buying and would like to share my opinion on the two common complaints now I've read it cover to cover:
"Book too short." - Given the subject matter it's easy to become overwhelmed with information. I appreciate the short and sweet nature of this book. It keeps things simple, but leaves room for you to do your own further research if you feel the need.
"Book too expensive/poor quality." - There are a few tiny spelling and formatting errors but nothing to make the book unreadable. A tenner for a self published book is an achievement in my opinion. We live in a capitalist hellscape where folk need to make money from their hard work.
