You can perform close to a ratcheting action to tighten those radiator tails and compression nuts by loosening your grip and allowing the jaws to slip over the nuts edge to the next flat surface and squeeze again.
It's easy to overtighten compression joints with this tool so some care is needed.
May not get under all boilers to loosen flow and return nuts but if it does fit it fits well without rounding off the nuts slipping and banging your knuckles or even worse cutting them. They are my go-to spanners now but I still use my Bahcos for access to some places I'm just more careful of smashing my knuckles.
It's great for Jobbing, maintenance and installation work.
I don't normally do reviews but I had to say something for my fellow engineers. I always look for a plumbers review when buying tools. You know what, I'm in a good mood now I may write some more reviews about other products, just the good stuff though lol.

Because of the straight jaw they don't mark the gland at all, which is important for some firms when they snag your finished works. They also grip cleanly and firmly, and I only have small to medium sized hands.
They're one of those tools you don't take with you on your first day, but bring in from home when shit gets real.
They're a timeless investment that you will have for years, until some yahoo nicks them out of your tool bag. I had electricians gawking over them like a page 3 pin-up.

Six months ago I bought the 125mm version (86 03 125) of the Knipex, and have been carrying it with me every day in a pouch on my belt, alongside my Leatherman Surge multitool, to replace a 4" Bahco adjustable spanner.
Whilst the Leatherman will happily grip objects in its pliers, the teeth are not best suited for tightening nuts and bolts. The Knipex pliers wrench on the other hand, with its smooth parallel action jaws, is a much better tool for this sort of work. If necessary, a bolt can be held stationary with the Leatherman, and then the nut can be loosened with the Knipex.
The jaw opening of 23mm vastly exceeds the 13mm of the Bahco, and it can be used for jobs which an adjustable spanner can't tackle, like straightening metal. Once you get the hang of it, the ratcheting action speeds up tightening and loosening tasks, and the self-tightening jaws mean that you don't have to grimly keep the handles pressed together like a pair of pliers.
Although I don't use it every day like the Leatherman, it has come in very useful and is particularly good on brake pipes.
I have no hesitation in recommending this great little tool!

I already have 250mm and 300mm water pump pliers and I wanted something a bit smaller to get into tight spaces. I was very surprised just how compact these pliers are, and initially thought they wouldn't be up to the job. In use however they are brilliant, small enough to get in where other water pump pliers or grips can't, but with a decent capacity - the 180mm model I bought fits a 40mm nut. Their strong grip allowed me to undo nuts I didn't expect such a compact tool to manage.
The size adjustment gives a range of about 6mm before you have to move to the next notch. It would be nice if this had a bit more movement but this would need a larger and more complex mechanism, so it's a good compromise. Their construction means the harder you push on the handle, the tighter they grip the nut, and there's no danger of their slipping. The parallel jaws are smooth and flat and don't mar brass or chrome fittings, so much nicer than pipe grips.
Adjusting the pliers to the required size is a little fiddly, but no more so than regular pipe grips or adjustable spanners. They don't slip, keeping their size setting until you want to change. This is a real advantage over adjustable spanners that seem to need to be tightened constantly. You can also ease off on the handles and let them slip as you undo or tighten the nut, a bit like a ratchet spanner. This really speeds up working, especially if you can't see what your doing.
Although these are called 'Pliers Wrench' they are most useful as a truly useable adjustable spanner, that happens to be a good pair of pliers too. These have replaced a set of spanners in my tool box.
The good
• Compact
• Good capacity
• Smooth parallel action jaws
The bad
• Size markings hard to see
• Adjustment range is a bit small
Overall I'm really impressed with these pliers. They aren't the cheapest around, but offer good value when you consider the cost and space savings you can make by not needing a full set of spanners. They are much better than water pump pliers and don't cut up the work piece. Definitely recommended.
