First all start with everything this mask does right and then the cons and how it could be improved.
Pros: This mask is of much better construction than many I've had before. The zip on the top where the cord to charge is much better than to the side as my previous one was and it makes removal of the internal electronics much easier in order to wash it.
The padding is very soft and comfortable and alleviates as much as possible the hard speakers. It could always use more through out the whole thing, because the little dongle to charge that I tuck in for safety always ends up near my temple on the inside.
While I know the internal parts of the musical capability are pretty much the same in all of these masks on the market, the recording of the lady who says "Power on, power off" is much less abrasive than my previous mask, which is important when it comes to sleep.
The battery life seems incredibly decent. I charge it everyday, because the other one I had needed to be fully charged in order to last the whole night. I sleep with constant soft music the whole night through. I will purposefully go to bed with only 60% battery and see how it performs.
The band that wraps around your head is adjustable and not made of velcro, which is important because all of these elastic bands stretch out overtime and the velcro one I had before had stretched out so much that I had to put it on the very last portion to make it fit.
Cons:
The mask is actually a little small. I have a small face and head and I've noted if I shift in my sleep, which most people do, if it slides a bit a little bit of light might come through the top or the bottom.
Biggest con: The fabric that actually sits on your face has two major issues with it. While it is very soft and none irritating, it is also made of some kind of jersey or cotton, meaning if you have eyebrow hairs, it will yank on them. I've woken up a few times now with sore eyebrows because they were pulled and bent while sleeping.
This could easily be solved by what I think could be the biggest improvement to this product, eye cups. This also removes any sense of pressure to your eyes if you are a side sleeper or if you wear eyelash products and don't want them smooshed. I had eye cups on my last pair and from that perspective that sleep mask was better for fit and comfort.
So in summary, this would be the perfect sleep mask if:
1: They change the inner fabric to be softer. I wish the outer fabric was the inner fabric, or something similar. Something that doesn't catch and hold on to longer hairs on the face.
2: If it had eye cups that alleviated pressure on the eyes. I highly suggest making memory form eye cups to the inner part of the product in future creations.
3: They made the part that fits over your face taller so that it covers a wider range of faces.
Otherwise this mask is one of the best I've had and it's frustrating that I can't just meld the form and fit of my previous mask to the better quality/design of this one. I've thought of cutting up my old one and literally sowing it into the front inner part of the new one, but I don't think that will work because this one is quite a bit smaller. But I might try it anyway because waking up to painful eyebrows and the pressure on my eyes is not pleasant.
