bad vocoder bad quality sampler no carrior wave realy fun but 5 to 0 star in less then 5 hours

po 35 is a vocoder for people who don't know what a vocoder is, you can't change the carrior wave this is beyond laim you would think they would give you clean 120 seconds sampleing memory but no they the audio is junk so bad that you can only make out words when whispering so it adds noise only 15 slots but singing complements the synth carrior wave sound and the only good thinks are 4 of the vocoder effects that tuneing seems to have no effect on and you can't change the drum samples unless you buy the vst and no there litraly samples with some kind of rubberband style pitchshift and tone control 2 voices but if you put a drum beat first sometimes it will bug out and only give you 1 voice first time using it and it reset to the defult samples after removing the batteries this however never happend ever again removing the batteries is hard and not worth it even just to wedge a pice of thin carboard to cut the circet these thinks claim to last 2 year on standby mode and functions as a digital clock nice and I kind of fell in love with its charm its good at playing those black box drums and the vocoder makes a good lead or synth noise or noisy and dirty bass this think is a 1 trick pony after the magic show its out of fun and tricks also it being a circit board don’t think I want to get dust on it or put it in my pocket making the alarm clock pritty usless and easliy replaced with a phone overpriced good at sequencing fails at expresion swing helps also it is not posable to use the punch in effects with external audio honestly I would have kept it just for the stutter sweep effect alone and what little ideas I can quickly make the po 33 with some pre sampled calf vocoder makes the po 35 fall flact on its face janky to use and learn manule is incompleat this product makes me think teenage eginering is going out of business or just out of ideas

not looking for moral arguments just looking for something thats fun and dos a job fast and portably this thing dos it slow buggy and the effects sound quality ruin everything cheesy and fun at first but bad in any serious production the po33 has more options when it gets to sound you can feed it and it sampling cleanly makes the 35 look like a greedy cash grab this device is just all cute quirky style with 0 substance or integrate hint vocoding is about the carrior wave and quality not the build in pretuned sounds and junk recording po33 has an ok mic why dose this need to poorly save sounds also on top 26$ will get you a nice lepel condenser mic and 15$ will get you a raspberry pi not convinient just being as dead sirious about price perspective here it fails at all the fundementals of a synth even down to being a labor saving device the foundation of the pocket oporator is good but what they built on top of it in the 35 instence is realy bad carrior waves and quality sampler all you needed for it to be a good product

Simple advice: Order directly from Teenage Engineering.

If you must order from an Amazon vendor, the first time you get a faint whiff of "is this thing possibly broken?" you should return it immediately and buy a new one directly from Teenage Engineering. This is a complex gadget, and it may take you a while to find a defect, and to know it's not just the learning curve. BUT--you are probably only going to get the (free) one-year warranty if you buy directly from Teenage Engineering.

I bought this on Amazon shortly before a month-long trip around Europe. I wanted a music toy to play with on the plane, and I only had a few days before I left, so I got one day shipping.

When it arrived, there was some damage on the packaging, but I didn't think much of it at the time. I got the thing started up and things seemed to be in order, far as I could tell at least. I packed it in my carry-on bag and finished getting ready for my trip.

On the plane, I plugged in the slew of adapters so I could sample from my phone's audio. With the instructions sheet in hand, I got a sample loaded in and started chopping. Fun! Next, I needed to dial in the tempo to get my sample locked in nicely. This is where things went sideways. I couldn't get any precision out of the knobs. I'd twist the smallest amount, it would move 1, 2, 3 BPM, then suddenly 100+. Was it defective, or was I doing something wrong?

This is the challenge with the Pocket Operators. They are powerful little machines, but they are tough to figure out. The KO is not my first PO. You'll find yourself constantly asking yourself whether it's you or the machine, and often, yeah, it's you.

So here I am on a plane struggling with my brand new $90 toy, and I'm too tired to mess with it, so I put it away. I go on with my trip, which is largely a work trip, and my mind is obviously elsewhere. Needless to say, a month passes without an opportunity to get the broken PO into the mail.

When I'm back home and settled in, I see I've missed my return window with Quantum Networks, the Amazon reseller I went through. The return button is just missing, not much recourse there. So I do a little research with Teenage Engineering to discover they have a 1-year warranty! I write to their tech support and inquire, including a video of the badly behaving PO. They confirm that it is in fact a defect, and that I should contact whoever sold me the product, and emphasize that I'm looking for a warranty replacement, not a typical return/exchange.

A little back and forth with Quantum, and it was clear that they were content to let this be my problem. If I had bought the thing directly from Teenage Engineering, I'd be chopping away on a working PO-33 right now, but sadly, I now have a $90 piece of electronic trash.

Arrivato senza protezione in una "busta" contenente uno scatolone caffè che che avevo ordinato lo stesso giorno dell'acquisto del PO-33, la "logica" vuole che il prodotto (delicatissimo come tutti sanno) non funzioni, si spegneva senza motivo, non reagisce (come nel video) ad alcuna pressione dei tasti, non registra tramite Jack out.
Di solito elogio Amazon per i suoi servizi, ma stavolta merita una stella per aver spedito un prodotto delicatissimo senza ALCUNA PROTEZIONE dentro una busta a contatto diretto con uno scatolone anche pesante.
Chiesto il reso, lo riacquisteró sperando in una miglior sorte.

I want to recommend the pocket operator series. They're incredibly fun to play with, especially the K.O! that I have. Sampling and then being able to create a beat is satisfying and a fun way to pass the time and I often found my self spending hours at a time just figuring out what I could make...
However, I've had three of these break.
The first one I had was the arcade. Great fun. I carried it around a lot which could have effected its condition. It stopped playing sounds correctly, my inputs weren't recognized and it would cut out randomly also.
Amazon was great at replacing these items which is a plus.
The new one I received did work and never broke.

I recently purchased the K.O! to pass the time during lock down. The first one I received, straight out of the box, would not record sounds with the mic. This was disappointing but overall understandable. Things don't always work so I got a replacement sent out for free which was great. The new one worked as expected and provided a lot of entertainment. A couple months ago, I put it away in a draw. I placed in it's original packaging and a small unsealed bag and placed it carefully in my draw. There wasn't anything pressing on it that could have caused damage. I've pulled it out of the draw and it has not turned on. I've replaced the batteries twice and neither replacement worked.
That a decent amount of cash gone now... I can't even use it as a paper weight because it's so light which was part of the fun to begin with! I tiny, portable sampler is amazing! And whiles it worked, I had a lot of fun! It's now too late for me to get a replacement which is really disappointing.
Overall, they're really fun and entertaining devices. I thought it was worth the cash at first but with the amount of fails I've had, I'm not so sure about that anymore.
I really wanted to love the pocket operators.

PO-33 is great, but don't buy from this seller

The PO-33 is really fun and versatile, but, after several months, two of the columns of LEDs have completely gone dark, which makes it really difficult to edit patterns. My device is still under warranty, but getting it replaced has been a huge hassle.

Quantum Networks is the retailer that Teenage Engineering uses for selling the POs on Amazon. I talked to the TE support, and they were very responsive, but they said I had to do the return the Quantum Networks. Quantum Networks redirects you to the TE support page, but also provide a phone number where you can leave a message that they don't seem to respond to. The automated phone message also recommend sending questions to "careers@quantumnetworks.com", which unfortunately get immediately denied by their email server.

I'd recommend buying pocket operators through a different retailer, like Guitar Center, with good customer service and brick and mortar locations.

I'm by no means a rockstar, but I own and feel relatively competent with Ableton Live, and I've had multiple audio interfaces, multiple synthesizers, all kinds of audio equipment. I've got to say these are the worst directions I've ever gotten with a product such as this. I cannot figure out how to use this thing, and to be honest I really, really hate it.

EDIT: I just turned this one star review to a 5 star review, because I've figured out the basics, and I've had a LOT of fun with this thing already. I kept the old review because I want you people reading this to understanding how frustrating this can be, but that it is worth it if you just accept that you're not going to get it immediately. You have to tinker around a lot, and also do some outside reading. There are video tutorials which people swear by which didn't help me that much, but there are some great threads (and people) on reddit that will help you more than the instructions included with your PO. There is one site in particular that answered pretty much all my questions, just google PO-33 Guide. The pattern chaining is really what makes this such an awesome device, wow. Fun for hours. It's fun by itself but if you have an audio interface, you can really take this to the next level, sampling things out of your DAW into this, and sampling it all back in to put the finishing touches on your composition. I have had a busy week and each time I had picked this thing up I'd been kind of in a rush and didn't really have time to figure it out and was really, really close to trying to return it. But I'm very glad that I stuck it out and took the time to sit with the frustration and gave it a chance. I almost want to say four stars because, again, I really do mean it when I say that the directions are thin, but naw, definitely 5 stars. This thing is a blast.

Did they put a slit in the top so that the tab would stick through when you place it in the backless rubber? Nope. Sorry but I don't really want to break my brand new product. I had a second case ordered in another color. Fortunately, it hadn't shipped yet and I was able to cancel it. Most likely will return this one. A total let down.

Defective knob. Nobody is willing to help.

One of the knobs was defective on a brand new PO-12 that I just ordered. The knob doesn't do anything unless you press down on it. The moment you release the knob, the level jumps back to 50%.

Amazon said that I have to receive customer support directly from Teenage Engineering, so I reached out to them. They didn't believe me, so I had to record a video to prove it to them. Then, after 3 days of emailing back and forth, they finally told me that they can't help me, and that I have to receive support from Amazon.com.

Lesson #1: Do not buy Pocket Operators from Amazon because they will not provide customer support.

Lesson #2: Do not buy Pocket Operators from Teenage Engineering because they will not provide customer support.

Lesson #3: Do not buy Pocket Operators from Teenage Engineering because customer satisfaction is not a value that they regard highly. Only profit matters to them.

This does NOT seem to be a Teenage Engineering operated Amazon account. So the quality control is sub par. First, my shipment was delayed. But hey, that sort of stuff happens. No problem. When I finally get the package, the box around the PO33 is completely split open. I have no idea if I’m getting a new product or some sort of refurbished one. So I try putting batteries in and it doesn’t work. I have to literally hold the battery ends with my fingers and create a circuit for the machine to power on. Otherwise it wouldn’t work. So I play with the battery placement and I get it to stay on. All of this within just 20 min of opening the package. I have no idea how long this little machine will last or even if this is a new product or not. I’m writing a bad review for everyone to provide some words of caution. Just go to Teenage Engineering’s site and order direct.

Der lowfisound und das Konzept sind wirklich sehr gut, die Taster leider genau das Gegenteil. Ich wollte zunächst den Forenbeiträgen zu dieser Problematik nicht so recht glauben schenken, aber die Taster verabschieden sich tatsächlich zunehmend von Monat zu Monat. Immer mehr Taster reagieren dann entweder gar nicht mehr, oder aber erst nach zigmaligem festem Drücken dann plötzlich doppelt. Das die sounds nicht über Midi spielbar sind kommt erschwerend hinzu, da die Drumbox für mich nun unspielbar und somit unbrauchbar geworden ist. Ich bin wirklich kein fan von ein Sterne Bewertungen, aber ein ca. 100€ teurer drummer, der nach ca. sechs Monaten nicht mehr spielbar ist, geht für mich gar nicht. Ich kann jedem nur raten direkt die 30€ teure Gummiabdeckung mit zu kaufen, in der Hoffnung, das die Taster dann länger halten. Solange diese (in der Herstellung vermutlich ca. 10 Cent teuren?) Gummimatten nicht automatisch mitgeliefert werden um die offensichtlich extrem anfälligen Taster zu schützen, kommt mir kein te pocket mehr ins Studio. PS: ein "Ein/Aus"-Schalter täte den Pockets übrigens sehr gut, da sich die Isolierfolie der Akkus an den Stirnseiten vom ständigen rausgeknibbel aufpellen.
