If you sleep on your back, or want a mask for travel, where you sleep in a chair, then this is probably the mask for you. If, however, like the majority of people, you sleep on your side, or just end up there, then you might want to think again. I bought this mask as the eye pods were the deepest I could find, as I have the double whammy of sleeping with my eyes open (making it incredibly easy to be disturbed by light), & having Graves disease, which gave me prominent eyes. The eye pods are great in this respect, as they give my eyes lots of room, but the mask is just not comfortable for side sleepers. The sides of the mask are quite soft, a little on the thick side, but not too bad. The eye pods are another matter - if you have the mask fitted so that it doesn't slip (& I'm not talking a tight fit here), the pods dig into your face when on your side. The edges of the pods that touch your face are very square& firm (I have other masks & all of them have nice smooth rounded edges that don't dig in). However, if you have the mask with a looser fitting, the eye pods still dig in when on your side (those right angled edges again!), & the mask will depart to a life of freedom elsewhere in the bed. Altogether, a great idea, but needs refining...
I can’t dispute the quality of this eye mask, but it’s really uncomfortable. I sleep in a range of positions (on my side, back and front) and in all positions there are issues. The eye cups are far too bulky when sleeping on my side or front as they push hard in to my face or eyeballs, and the strap is too thick when sleeping on my back so it digs in to the back of my head. Impossible to get a good nights a sleep unfortunately. I’ve also found it very difficult to keep the light out, which is meant to be the USP of this eye mask having separate, movable eye cups. Cheaper, simpler eye masks do a better job on all fronts.
I sleep with a bi-pap machine and air always leaks into my left eye so I decided to look for a mask that might help. After looking at a few options I found this one which looked perfect. I did note a new people said it wasn’t suitable for side sleeping but as the product said it was, I thought I’d try it.
I did get great sleep however….sleeping on my side pushed the mask into my eye area and I woke up with a swollen eye. It’s such a shame as I thought this would be the answer to the issue I was having.
This is not good for side or belly sleepers, as the cups are small and will pressure your eyes. It's good quality and might be okay for a person that sleeps on their back but I think for this price is not worth buying. For 30£ it should come with all the accessories that they sell separately (at least the wider/bigger cups which might have sorted my issue.
I am being very honest with this review. I've owned many eye masks before so I could actually afford to compare between them. The eye pads are just too thick so as soon as you turn to your side, they move out of place. The first 2 nights I woke up without the mask on didn't even know where it went. Very frustrating for a (almost) £30 mask. It feels good but there's cheaper masks out there that have a better feel for a fraction of the price. The pads are not memory foam which is a shame too. It's just normal foam so nothing fancy. Not impressed at all, sorry.
The headband is so thick it feels uncomfortable on a pillow in any position. Rated 2 stars for the materials that seem pretty good quality, might be useful on a plane but awkward and uncomfortable in bed.
