I sleep on my side or stomach. So my face is sideways or one eye is pressed into the pillow. I bought these to try and prevent pressure on my eye when pressed into the pillow. And it does help with that. However, I have to adjust it a lot so that it's comfortable, and not pressing into my face uncomfortably.
I tend to move around a lot, and the mask doesn't stay in place. I've loosened it, tightened it, it still moves.
When I first got it, I was able to easily open my eyelids while wearing the mask. The sides seem to have compressed a little bit, because now my eyelashes touch the mask when opening my eyelids. But the compression has made it slightly better to sleep with.
Pros of the mask. The back strap is nice and soft. The velcro is well covered, so my hair doesn't get caught up in it. With the edges, I can open my eyes, which is a huge plus for me. The eye "patches" can be moved, so they can be adjusted according to individual faces. Almost all the light is cut off. There may be some trickle coming in, but it's usually covered with some adjustments.
Overall, it may not be the best for side/stomach sleepers. But if you want something to avoid pressure to your eyeballs, then this is good.
I dislike the mask because it is heavy, hot and very uncomfortable. I had a cyst on my brain stem and when they removed it I had some complications and my right eye will not close. I have to sleep with my eye covered or it will dry out.
Really wanted to like this item but the strap in the back creates a bump which is uncomfortable for me (as a back sleeper). Wish there was a little more fabric so that people could fasten on the side. It’s very soft and otherwise comfortable but I will need to return it as I found myself ripping it off in the middle of the night
Splashed out on this for myself and my dad as he had issues with the cheap ones rubbing on his ears. The strap on this one is much better for over ear, but it is very bulky. There is a large velcro patch to secure it at the back which lets you get it nice and tight, but it gets in the way when sleeping on your back. So you roll over to the side and then the bulk of the eye pads gets in the way, pressing on my nose and eye socket. Maybe it's just my style of sleeping, but I've found there are only a few positions that don't press on either the face or the velcro on the back. It's also quite hot because of the size and paddedness of it all. When it's in its natural position though the comfort and light blocking are head and shoulders above everything else I've tried, so it's a balance.
Like other review state it’s not for side sleepers! I feel for whatever reason, it’s blocks my nose abit when it’s on and makes me a bit blocked up. Does well at blocking out light, if you lay on you back, comfy in that aspect. Quite expensive also
The bands on the side are very thick which makes sleeping on your side a bit uncomfortable. About the only thing I did like was that there was no eye pressure and did not mess with my eye lashes. This would be better suited for those that sleep on their back or in a seated position, in my opinion.
I don’t understand how some people say this works for side sleepers. I’ve tried sleeping on my side with this several times, and it’s horrible. My pillow pushes on the side of the thick cushion of the cup which moves the mask slightly and I can feel the lump from the eye cushion.
