I am so hard on watches and this watch has made it through it all. I LOVE my Skagen and probably will never buy another brand of watch.
My particular one is fairly water resistant, I've splashed water in and near it, and even put my hand into the turtle tank once when I had to get the turtle out when the lightbulb got wet, exploding sharp glass all over. I didn't have a moment to take off the watch, so in it went. It came out fine. I do not usually immerse this watch although I don't take it off to wash my hands or scrub dishes before they go into the dishwasher. I wouldn't immerse it often though. In 5 years of ownership, I wore this watch almost every day for the first 4. Then I bought 2 more Skagen watches to expand my "wardrobe." That should tell you something right there. Here's my analysis:
Pros: *Many Skagens have this mesh bracelet. It is WONDERFUL and I can't say enough about it. Hypoallergenic, breathable like no other band. I'm allergic to everything, my skin is so acidic it will literally eat the chrome finish off of things. Not so with this watch, since it's surgical stainless steel. *In 4 years, I have had to replace the battery once. Great battery life. *Attractive, gets comments. *Flashy flat glass gets attention and if you can't read, just tilt to angle and it works great. *Love the sparkly little crystals. *Matching brushed silver face. *Easily adjustable band. Takes a small screwdriver to pry up the clamping clasp. Easy. *Good locking safety clasp. If the catch gets loose, just give it a little pressure from pliers and it becomes tight again. *Super low profile. Sits close to your wrist which helps out on the first "con"
Cons: *All Skagens have low-quality glass. It does chip, scratch, etc. I'm very hard on watches so it's definitely taken some abuse. It still looks good though-- that was the only thing that made it lose a star. I wish Skagen had a more expensive line with real sapphire crystals, I'd be willing to pay more. They are WORTH IT. *No second-hand.
I thought a smart and trendy watch would be just the thing for the good lady's birthday and noticed that the Skagen brand, which I hadn't previously heard of. regularly cropped up when browsing online. Taking a look in some watch stores and jewellers it's presence there too allied to some great reviews suggested their watches were worth a closer look.
There are dozens of different Skagen watches out there from current and past seasons collections so choosing one was difficult. In the end I settled upon this one given a combination of the price, the reviews, the look of the watch and being silver and relatively neutral meant it would go with many an outfit.
The packaging when it arrived caused me concern I must admit. The white sleeve in which the box was covered was slightly grubby, there were marks where tape had previously been and it had obviously been opened in the past. I wondered if I was being sold a return, and if so why had it been returned? Perhaps it had simply been opened for QC purposes, I don't know, but seeds of doubt were sewn.
As for the actual watch itself. Lovely! Has a classy, trendy look and happily the good lady took to it instantly. It has kept time perfectly and has been complimented on a couple of occasions the missus has worn it.
Securing the fastener at the optimum point on the strap as has been mentioned is quite a task and without the instructions very kindly listed by another reviewer I fear the wife and I might have given up.
But all things considered, it's been a good buy and a well liked gift.
I bought this the other week and I am in love with it already. I actually bought this after seeing my sister have a black version made from Titanium but I like this one so much more due to the style and the stones make the watch face look very classy & stylish. I have really wide wrists so I liked the fact that the clasp was adjustable (though a bit stiff to start off with!) and managed to fit round my wrist. Also the fact that it was made from stainless steel appealed to me as well as previously wearing leather/plastic watches, I get a painful rash from where the strap has been.
The only problems I've found is the clasp seems to have been scratched slightly already. It's not extremely obvious but I'm slightly disappointed when I've only had the watch a week and it hasn't been banged or dropped, etc - not quite sure how that has happened! Also another little niggle was the clasp kept opening when I am typing/writing on a desk. I think this is more because of the length and it is angled so it can fit my wrist (if you lay the watch on a flat surface it isn't flat due to the strap) but after a couple of days, it hasn't happened since (maybe I'm typing differently or possible learnt how to fasten it properly!).
Overall, I do love this watch. It's just the right size and was exactly what I was looking for.
Things I love about this watch: - It is beautiful, very contemporary, stylish and very feminine. - It keeps excellent time. - It's a little bit different. - It is comfortable to wear, slimline and smooth. - Everytime I look at it, I feel pleased that I bought it.
The things I was mildly miffed about: - No instructions re clasp use or strap length adjustment come with this watch.
Clasp issues: - Nothing abnormal detected so far, no slipping, loosening or falling off...this was something that concerned me about the watch prior to purchase, as it seemed to be the only major complaint about it, however, I think if you adjust the strap so it is a reasonably snug fit (not so it cuts off circulation of anything, just so it's not flopping about on your wrist)the clasp actually works very well and is a clever design. Personally, I like to wear watches so they stay in one spot, so this arrangement suits me fine.
Strap adjustment: It took me a while to work out how to adjust the length of the strap, but once you know how, it's no problem...So here's how: - Lay the watch on the table, face up, with the clasp end in the open position, pointing away from you. - You should see a small, rectangular hole situated on top of the sled mechanism (which acts as a jammer to stop the watch adjusting itself at random). - Using a small enough implement, eg. small scissors, or a screw driver from a lense repair kit, gentley lever up the sled mechanism by inserting whatever you are using for the job, and gentely pushing downwards. - There will be a small amount of resistence, but then it should pop up like a car bonnet and allow you to slide it into the prefered position. Once you've adjusted it, just push it back down firmly and it should lock back into place.
I love this watch, it is my first Skagen watch, and I am very impressed! Hope this reveiw has been useful!
